Poetry: The First Time I Saw You

The first time I saw you, I was in total awe.

Your fingers were so perfect! Your feet, in miniature.

I was physically exhausted, child birth was far from easy

Contractions taking over me, demanding every ounce of strength from me.

An intense wave that rose rhythmically within me.

Now over, instantly. You had arrived.

I found the strength to hold you,

A must, for the first time.

I smiled.

Whilst the medical team somehow faded into the background. A blur. A faint whim.

All I could see, was you.

You my first child. You who were now my everything.

I placed my forefinger into your tiny little hand.

Your fingers softly closed around it, like a whisper, so tiny, so light,

I could see your tiny finger nails becoming white, as you squeezed with all of your might!

I kissed them and simply rested my lips, for what seemed an age upon them.

My, my, my, the first time I saw you

Me,

A new mum.

Such a precious day, when I gave birth to you, my son.

  1. How absolutely beautiful. I hope you keep writing poetry. I found this SO moving. I have never had dhildren, but this gave me an insight into what it feels like to give birth to your first child. Just lovely. I could see and feel that little baby!
