The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan 2021 Daily Prompt – Jan. 16th
First thing was not to react. This he knew was key in order to not escalate the situation. This wasn’t the first he had encountered racists. It was situations like this in his childhood that caused him to lash out. I would fight over everything I saw as a challenge or a waste of conversation at the time. My temper was short. Infact I was like touch paper. The only place that knew how to deal with a wild one like me was Judo. There I found the discipline and the controlled outlet I needed to guide my temper and turn it into something positive. Now, years later I was a Second Dan. I was more than able to deal with the three men before me. But for that very reason I chose in stead to smile and say “fellas I don’t want any trouble as I took out my badge and displayed it before their faces.’ The confidence drained from their face as they realised their first reality was being arrested if this was to escalate any further and infact I could arrest them already for their behaviour. They turned and continued their conversation between themself. I turned back to the bar and smiled at Ruby. “If only they knew, hay Duke’s?” “If only Ruby?” “Same again Duke’s” “Same again Ruby.”
Not editing or going back to more fully expand or define what first comes into my head is always a challenge to me. I must admit😊 But good practice.
